Happy New Year To All

Photobucket

Year of the ox, 2009 is already knocking our doors. We can say goodbye to 2008. Here in Britain, lavish and extravagant fireworks display will be showcasing in the River of Thames in London with the beautiful landmark of London Eye as its backdraft. Last year was a very succesful event. And I think today as well, New Year's Eve will be outlasting the previous display. Today's temperature have plummeted to minus 6 degrees centigrade.

But I am interested in our customs and traditions in my home country Philippines.

In Philippines the families gather together at midnight on New Year and eat a midnight meal. This is believed by the people in Philippines would ensure plenty of food in the coming year. The children in Philippines follow a custom of jumping up and down 10 times to grow tall in the coming year. This custom is believed would make the children taller for the coming year.

Fireworks are an important part of the New Year celebrations in Philippines. The people in Philippines set off fireworks as a symbol of happiness on New Year. The fireworks are seen as a traditional way to greet the New Year with joy.

The preparations for the New Year in Philippines begin a few days ahead of New Year. Although the customs of celebrating New Year in Philippines may have changed a little but the spirit of the New Year celebrations remains the same among the people of Philippines on New Year.

The custom of wishing everyone luck and happiness and seeing off the old year and welcoming the New Year is still prevalent in Philippines. Dance music and other amusements are the other customs that the people in Philippines follow on New Year.

Media Noche or midnight is an important custom that is followed. On New Year's Eve families in Philippines gather to have this midnight mass. This midnight mass is believed by the people in Philippines to symbolize their hopes for a prosperous New Year. The custom of making noise and merrymaking is not only meant to have all the fun on New Year but also to drive away evil spirits. The people in Philippines believe banging on pots and pans and blowing on car horns to be the safer methods of merrymaking on New Year.

The wide populaces in Philippines believe displaying colorful fruit and wearing clothes with dots and other circular designs would be lucky as they symbolize money. Just like the New Year custom of other countries the people in Philippines believe in following the custom of eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight on New Year. This would bring them good luck for the coming year. Opening the doors during the first day of the New Year is a custom that is followed to bring good luck for the New Year.

Queen Elizabeth II Christmas Message

(daily telegraph.co.uk)The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were joined by Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Princes William and Harry for the service at St Mary Magdalene Church near Sandringham House in Norfolk.

The Princess Royal and her husband Timothy Laurence, the Duke of York and his daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex also attended.

Onlookers traditionally gather to see members of the Royal Family walk from Sandringham House to the nearby St Mary Magdalene Church.

On Christmas Eve, William and Harry took part in a traditional festive football match on the estate, joining estate workers in an informal game at Castle Rising near Sandringham.

The service comes ahead of the broadcast of the Monarch's speech which, last year, the Duke of York revealed the Queen sometimes watches alone to see if it comes across in the right way.

The Queen will use her this year's message to talk about the concern people are feeling over the economic downturn.

With unemployment rising and figures showing Britain heading into a recession, the Queen will say this year's celebrations will be overshadowed for some by fears about the future.

She will also highlight worries caused by conflict in countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Queen will address the impact of economic "insecurity" on family life in her Christmas message, reflecting that this year's festivities will be "more sombre" for many.

She will stress the importance of the family during the economic downturn during the broadcast, which will also include rare film footage of Prince Charles as a baby.

The tone of her message acknowledge that Britain faces rising unemployment and uncertainty in the financial markets.

In the address, filmed in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace, the Queen highlights the support she and the Duke of Edinburgh receive from their own children and grandchildren.

The point is underlined by photographs on a grand piano behind the Queen of Prince William and Prince Harry in their Army uniform, next to one of the Prince of Wales in his flying gear when he was in the Royal Navy. There is also a photograph of the Duke of Edinburgh and a black and white one of the Queen and Duke with their children.

The broadcast, set against the backdrop of one of the severest recessions of the Queen's reign, comes after she privately urged the Royal Family to respect the difficult times the country faces by avoiding overt displays of extravagance. In her address the Queen acknowledges that many of her subjects have been hit hard by the economic slump.

"Christmas is a time for celebration, but this year it is a more sombre occasion for many," she will say.

"Some of those things which could once have been taken for granted suddenly seem less certain and naturally give rise to feelings of insecurity."

The broadcast will feature never before-seen private footage of the then Princess Elizabeth, aged 23, and Prince Charles in a drawing room at Clarence House in 1949 when he was one-years-old.

Princess Elizabeth and the Duke lived at Clarence House after their marriage in 1947 until she succeeded to the throne in 1952. Clarence House then became the home of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and is now the official London residence of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

The black and white cine film is part of the Royal Family's own personal archive which is kept in the vaults of the British Film Institute. The Queen, who approved the film sequence for the Christmas Message, had not seen it for years.

When the film begins the credits, which will not be seen in the television broadcast, state: "Produced By: HRH Princess Elizabeth; CAST: HRH Prince Charles, HRH Princess Elizabeth; Photography: Graham Thompson

Gowns: Nannie; Make up and effects: Boyoh Brownovich. The future Queen dictated the cast list.

The nanny who chose the gown for the Prince was Helen Lightbody, who worked with him until two weeks before his eighth birthday. Miss Lightbody, who was nicknamed 'No Nonsense' Lightbody, never uttered a word about her experiences and retired to a grace-and-favour apartment owned by the Duchy of Cornwall. She died aged 79 in 1987.

The film footage is warm and extremely personal and underlines one of the themes of the Queen's message about the importance of the family in difficult times. The Queen will spend Christmas with her immediate family at Sandringham, her Norfolk residence.

The Queen also pays tribute to the unselfish work of the voluntary services at home and abroad and to the role of Armed Forces especially those involved in active service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Prince Harry became the first member of the Royal Family since the Duke of York in the Falklands in 1982 to serve on the front line when he went on secret assignment in Afghanistan for 10 weeks. The Queen, who is head of the Armed Forces, gave her approval for third in line to the throne to go to Afghanistan.

The Prince of Wales, who celebrated his 60th birthday in November, is also singled out by his mother who pays tribute to his lifetime of public service.

The broadcast, produced by the BBC, will be transmitted at 3pm on television and radio on Christmas Day and will also be available on the Royal Channel on the YouTube website from the same time.

MRI Update

The waiting is over. I received a letter from my neurologist and I attended my urgent appointment in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Edgbaston.

It took 24 days for them to report. I had my MRI scan last November 22 and just now they are able to read it.
I was really anxious when I received the letter because it was urgent. As what I heard, if they have given you an urgent appointment, it means there is something wrong.

I went for my duty in the morning and attended my appointment at 4pm. I went there by bike only and I was really sweating as the hospital is more elevated.

My name was called and I went to the clinic of my consultant, Mr. Benamer. I could not control my heart beating so fast. He then started breaking the news that I have a cyst in my pineal gland. He further said that it is more likely that I have it since I was a child but just now, I noticed it and seen through MRI scan (magnetic resonance imaging).

He said that I have nothing to worry as pineal gland cyst is more likely to be benign, meaning, not cancerous. But you know, to my own point of view, it is not nice to hear that you have a cyst and of course, I will think of something else.

But he assured me that I have nothing to worry. The pineal gland (also called the pineal body, epiphysis cerebri, or epiphysis) is a small endocrine gland in the vertebrate brain.
It produces melatonin, a hormone that affects the modulation of wake/sleep patterns and photoperiodic (seasonal) functions.
It is shaped like a tiny pine cone (hence its name), and is located near to the centre of the brain, between the two hemispheres, tucked in a groove where the two rounded thalamic bodies join.

A pineal cyst is a fluid-filled mass that can occur in the pineal gland. True pineal gland cysts are not brain tumors; rather, they are a completely benign cyst. The cause of these cystic masses are not known.

The large majority of pineal gland cysts do not enlarge much if at all. However, some enlarge over time slowly.

Although a true pineal cyst is benign and usually harmless, because they can mimic a tumor, they often need to be distinguished from other cystic tumors which can occur in the region of the pineal gland.

But Mr. Benamer have referred me to another consultant for verification. He said that surgical intervention is not necessary as this is only benign. I also asked if my headache is related to the cyst but he said that it is not.

Actually, I was not contented of what he said. I will ask a second opinion. As I do my browsing regarding the cyst, the first symptom that would occur is the unexplained headache but he underlook that one.

Well, at least, it is not dangerous as it is only a benign cyst. I called straight away Oliver in Recovery informing me about the result and he passed it to my manager, Pav and they were all glad of the good news.

ALEXANDRA BURKE crashed to victory in X Factor live final last Saturday, 13th of December, 2008. She is my favourite since the start of the elimination round. My other contenders for the top post are Ruth Lorenzo, Laura White and Rachel Hylton. But unfortunately, because of low votes gathered, they all eliminated.

The Londoner, who was mentored to success by new judge and Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole, beat JLS after singing Hallelujah.

Northern Ireland's Eoghan Quigg, 16, was the first one to exit. I really don't like him because he can't sing and if he can sing, he sing like in a karaoke.

Over eight million votes were cast as fans selected the new star. And that all went to Alexandra.

Tearful Alexandra, 20, struggled to speak after host Dermot O'Leary gave her the news but told the viewers: "Thank you everyone, Simon, Dannii, Cheryl, Louis and everyone."

And Cheryl was on hand to congratulate her — giving her a huge hug of support.

Meanwhile, JLS paid tribute to Alexandra for winning the £1million recording contract and thanked fans for voting.

Marvin added: "A huge thank you to everyone, the support's been just terrific. Hopefully this is the start of something."

There were more tears as Dermot showed Alexandra the first copy of her X Factor single.
She said: "You know what, for everyone who voted for me, this is for you. For everyone."
Alexandra previously applied to the X Factor three years ago, but failed to get through.
After winning the contest at the second time of coming back again, she told the wannabes to never give up on their dreams.

The singer said: "I went for this show three years ago and I got told to go home because I wasn't ready.

"So I came back three years later and look what's happened.

"It proves you must always, always try again."

Despite missing out on the recording deal, Eoghan urged the nation to celebrate his new friend's win.

He said: "I'd like everybody to have a big party now! Thank you everybody back home for voting, I love you all so much."

Alexandra was being praised for her duet performance with my great idol, Beyonce. What a nerve cracking belter performance of her.

But again, sad to say that Ruth and Laura were eliminated. I think they must change the criteria for judging because it is mostly commercialized and moneymaking contest and not being judged by the proper judges.

How about it they do a 50-50 criteria, like 50% for the judges and 50% for the text votes.

Christmas Is Around The Corner

The spirit of Christmas is around the corner and the cold wintry winds added the relevance that Christmas is coming soon. Eighteen days more to go and it's Christmas.

I started decorating as early as after the Halloween. I usually used to decorate very early as November. In the Philippines, they started decorating as early as October. My decors are muchly the same as the previous years. I added some ornaments and move the places of several decors to keep it alive.

I think Bacon loves my decors. I told her to help her daddy but she just sat there and watched TV. The same with Chez, Sweetie and Pinky. They don't care. But once I finished decorating, they were so jubilant and very happy that at last, Christmas is just around the corner.

Waiting For The Result

The long wait is over and I had my MRI scan done already last Saturday in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Selly Oak, Birmingham. I was scheduled at 1015 am. I nearly missed my appointment since I overlooked the time.

As I was nearly late, I took a taxi in going there and I arrived on time. When my name called at the MRI department, I was being escorted up to the locker room to leave my things there. I was being instructed to remove all metals, coins, and keys of which I didn't have.

I then asked the one who escorted me if I would be allowed to have my photos taken. Sorry but I forgot her name. She then asked the radiographer and I was so glad that my request was granted in a condition that this will be my personal use and not to be used or spread in the internet. I did promised her and I will keep to my promise.

As agreed, somebody took my photos once I started sitting in the table, then lying down, then pushed me inside the scan. I could hardly see them because I took off my glasses. They let me wear ear plugs and cautioned me of the loud noise.

When I was inside the scan, it was so very noisy like somebody was hammering and the loud buzzer every now and then. It took about an hour for the scan. To be honest, I was really petrified. I am still thinking too much, very anxious of the result. I did asked if I could know the initial findings but she said that my neurosurgeon will be the one to explain it to me.
Through this misery, I would like to thank Mayette, Steve and Ate Nitz for offering to escort me and to be with me during the procedure. They are such a true friends of mine.

I am still hoping for a normal result. I know that God is always by my side. I'm really praying hard and I do believe in him. My faith for him is strong. God is good.

Pray For Me

I am scheduled for MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) tomorrow. Why I will be having that? This is because I am suffering from an unexplained constant headache which can't be ruled out by the CT scan (computed tomography) alone. The neurosurgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Selly Oak, Birmingham was in doubt, that is why, he planned to put me under MRI.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

MR imaging uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures.

The images can then be examined on a computer monitor, printed or copied to CD. MRI does not use ionizing radiation (x-rays).

Detailed MR images allow physicians to better evaluate parts of the body and certain diseases that may not be assessed adequately with other imaging methods such as x-ray, ultrasound or computed tomography (also called CT or CAT scanning).

I had my CT scan last month and the initial findings showed that I have an slight enlargement of the pineal gland.

This is quiete scary since this will be my first time to go under the table. Even if I am one of the medical staff but still, I can't control myself from being anxious. My very good friend, Mayette is offering to accompany me in going to the hospital. I am also frightened of whatever they will find. I am praying so hard to God and to Jesus Christ for giving me good health and I really believe in God's power. I am really hoping that it will be a good result with the help of God, Jesus Christ and Mother Mary.

Blog Review: (money.makoyskie.com)

Makoy is very creative and generative in the sense of making money online. He elaborates on how to make use of your money or how to earn money.

There are some articles extracted from magazines like Playboy Philippines, FHM, Uno, etc. Bebe Gandanghari (Rustom Padilla before) is my very idol and I believe in his courage to open up.
And about scandal of Kim Chiu of which it is very far from reality for her to do that.

There are lot more for you to explore. It is a worth to visit.

Ruby Is Coming To England

Ruby Wolfsteiner or Ruby for short is here in UK for a short visit. She stayed with me for the next 3 weeks. I met her in Birmingham International Airport a week ago together with my kids, Bacon and Chez.

They (Bacon and Chez) were so happy and excited to see her and that was their first time to go to the airport. To both of you, you know, how much your daddy love you. I was with Roger de Leon in fetching her and he brought all his kids with him as nobody would look after them.

When we reached home, we had our lunch together and the foods being served were the spare during my birthday. I knew that she was so tired at that time because she travelled from Hohenfels in Bavaria region in Germany up to Hahn, Frankfurt for 5 hours and her husband was the one driving. That was a long journey, isn't it?

I just toured her here in Northfield and she enjoyed browsing the stores and she kept on saying that it is so cheap here. I just laughed at her. I started to get worried since I was running out of money and I have no overtime for the past month.

But anyway, since she is here, I will try to be a good host. Ruby is a easy going person and very flexible. I can assure that she possess a good character and trustworthy.

My Birthday Update Part 1

Photobucket

Our birthday party is over and it was indeed, a very successful one and full of joy. There were so many guests as usual and they are from the Northfield Filipino Community. Foods were either being donated or given as charity...hehehe.

By the way, the 2nd part of this event can be viewed by clicking the link here.

The birthday party was a joint party for the birthday celebrants, Rolly, Bacon and Chez. That was their first birthday party ever. Bacon was very gorgeous and very beautiful on her fairy dress with gold crown, earrings, necklace and anklet. Chez was wearing a spiderman outfit and he was so lovely on that attire.

They even blew the candles and made a wish. Bacon and Chez wishes was that they can walk someday. They know that their daddy Rolly love them so much. The kids love them and they posed with them. The only person that kept on laughing was Dante Lactao. He could not believe that Bacon and Chez were having a birthday as well.

Baby Jojo was there as well but this time via webcam. He woke up early and viewed the entire birhtday party and even chatted to my guests. I was so happy with his attendance. I know that he love me so much. Thank you for your love, baby Jojo.

The kids were playing all night long and the teenagers had a chat and so with the adults. As I blew the candles, I was in tears when prayers were offered by Arleen Huelgas. It was so difficult to move from either rooms because the space is just enough for me.

Present were my everdearest friends here in Northfield:

  1. Wilson and Arleen Huelgas with Dave, Katherine and Kirsten and Roselle
  2. Bert and Alice Anqui with Dondon and Christian
  3. Zaldy Uera with Zamil, Jono and Josh
  4. Mayette Rivera and Jamjam with Abby, Mikoy, Pauline and Akring
  5. Hams Masuhud with Shareen and Amr
  6. Dante and Macy Lactao with Mayumi, Maraya and Rikki

  8. Roger and Bing de Leon with KC and Vernette

  10. Alma Bautista with Louis
  11. Wilmer Ragudo

Happy Birthday Rolly, Bacon and Chez

Happy Birthday animated birthday

Today, October 25 is the day that I was born and I considered this day, the most memorable day of my life. Eventhough, I have no money but I really want to celebrate it with pride because my birthday will come once a year only.

To celebrate it, I should give thanks by offering preyers to God and Lord Jesus Christ for giving me another year. As a devoted catholic, I must light candles as well and praising Him for his kindness and glory.

But it is not only me who is going to have a birthday but for Bacon and Chez as well, Yes, you heard it right. It is a joint birthday party and this is their first big celebration. I know they would be happy because they know that their daddy Rolly love them so much.

You Are Invited To My Birthday

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Because today's so special it really wouldn't do,
to send one simple birthday wish to last the whole year through...
So this wishes happy moments,
a day when dreams come true,
and a year that's filled with all the things that mean the most
to you.
I will be getting a year older again this Saturday and I would be thankful for this life. This is so because God and Jesus Christ is so good to me.

On this occasion, I would like to invite all of you to join me in celebrating my birthday. As usual, expected guests from our Northfield Filipino Community here in Birmingham will be attending.

Since I don't have any knowledge in cooking, I am assigning the task of cooking to som of my friends like Bert Anqui, Stella Chiong, Arleen Huelgas, Johnna Espinoza, Macy Lactao, Hams Masuhud and Jogie Esguerra. I have no confirmation with Zaldy yet.

I don't know how to fit them in my very little terraced house. I can't put them in the garden because it's so cold nowadays. But for sure, the boys would love to be outside so that they can drink.
This is also to inform you that my blog will be featured tomorrow, October 22, Wednesday, in TFC Connect and I will be greeted by Miss Bianca Gonzales on air. I am already being informed by Bianca in her Mulitply Connectkabonding blog and I am so delighted about it. I will be watching that for sure. I am also being featured in the TFC Global Post for the upcoming event.

I will keep you updated of the happenings of my birthday.

Ian and Grace Grand Wedding Part 1

Animated Wedding animated wedding

This is the first part of my narrative report about the wedding ceremony of Ian Kavanagh and Grace Cervania. It consists from the house, hotel and then to the church.

The second part is compose of the reception and this is accesible by clicking the link here.

A wedding is a ceremony that celebrates the beginning of a marriage or civil union. The actual act of marriage begins during the wedding ceremony. In others, the legal act of marriage occurs at the time of signing a marriage license or other legal document, and the wedding is then an opportunity to perform a traditional ceremony and celebrate with friends and family. A woman being married is called a bride, a man called a groom, and after the ceremony they become a wife or a husband, respectively.

This solemn exchange of vows had occured in London for the doting and loving couple, GRACE and IAN. The preparation was solely prepared by her(Grace) immediate relatives like her brother, Omar and family and Arlene and family.

That was the 27th of September. I was fetched at about 830am by Omar together with his wife, Nadie and children, riding their car. We arrived in London at about 1020am. Our journey was hurdled by a very thick fog in the West Midlands but diminishing in London.

As we arrived in their residence in Greenford, outskirts of London, Arleen, Wilson and family were already there since last night. They were still busy doing the cooking, making the corsages and flowers, installing the cake and the bridal car. There was a marquee (larger than a tent and bigger than a gazeebo) which was being erected in their huge garden. They just rented it for the price of £350.
Inside the marquee was the reception with tables and chairs that can accomodate 10 round tables for 8 persons. Their was a buffet table with chafing dishes. The caterer? They just cooked it by themselves headed by the chef Arleen with the help of Roselle, Nedie and her helpers. This is a Fillipino style. British people only like finger foods but not the Filipinos.
On a special occasion like this, array of foods will flow the serving table. This is also our way of showing to our guests that we are very hospitable and we want a very memorable time.

I helped in making the corsages and preparing the bridal car. But my real duty and my purpose why I was there was to take the video for the whole affair. I just learned from Arleen that videotaking in the church itself is prohibited due to copyrights and heritage preservation because the church is grade 2 listed. I was really shocked upon knowing it. Imagine your wedding without a video inside the church.

So, my plan is just to take the video in their house, in the hotel where Grace was staying since last night and in the reception in their back garden.

By 3pm, I went to Hotel 55 in Ealing with Arleen and I took the video for Grace which at that time was having a photoshoot in the garden and hotel lobby. That was my first time to cover a special occasion like wedding. I only took video shots on my tour, birthdays and other occasions but not like this as they all relied on me. Anyway, I did my best to make it presentable.

By 415pm, we headed to the church in Greenford and I was riding the car of the photographer called Mannix Villafania. He's a professional freelance photographer. And he is also a nurse from Kidderminster but photography is his sideline job. You can contact him if you need his service. For sure, you will not regret it as you like it to the max.

Yes, the Holy Cross Church is so old, about 300 years old. Infront of the church is the old cemetery dated back 100-300 years ago. It's not a catholic church but Church of England. I went inside the church and I met the vicar. I asked permission if it is possible to take a video and to my delight, he said, it's alright and do what I want. I was really happy upon knowing it.

There were 4 wedding ceremonies on that day. The weather was lovely, very sunny and a good ambience. The bride came late as predicted. It should be 430pm but the vicar was really good and accomodating. The wedding march had started and little angels serving as the flower girls walked down the aisle. The children who participated were Dave, Katherine and Kirsten Huelgas, Astley, Aldrich and Aizell Cervania and a boy and a girl of which I didn't know their names.

Grace was escorted in walking the aisle with her sister, Arlene and brother, Omar. There were only few people in the church and few Filipinos who attended the ceremony. I think I was the only outsider there.

I started taking the video in the church. It was not easy for me to do the job as I always ran out of battery. Good that I brought my charger. I ran here and there trying to catch the memorable glimpse. The ceremony took so briefly by exhanging I do's and signing the marriage certificate. It only lasted for 30 minutes to be exact.

The wedding vow was said by them as:
"I, (Ian/Grace), take you, (Ian/Grace), to be my lawfully wedded (husband/wife), my constant friend, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward. In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live."

After the ceremony, the couple walked outside the church and rose petals were showered to them. I was trying to avoid not to take videos in the cemetery but I could not avoid it. There was a phototaking outside the church by all of us. First, by the couple, then, family members, then, friends.
